The Pottery Shed is the perfect place for beginners to dive into the world of clay. Established in 2010 by American pottery teacher Joe Darling, we’ve built a reputation as Sydney’s original and best pottery school dedicated to teaching affordable wheel-throwing skills. Whether you’re curious to try pottery for the first time or keen to refine your technique, our classes are welcoming, hands-on, and fun.

📅 Book a Class – All Levels Welcome

We teach all aspects of clay and ceramic art, including hand-building, wheel throwing, glazing, and surface decoration. Classes run every day, and single sessions are available if you’d like to try it out. Our Completion Service makes it easy to finish your work, with full completion available for $35 and partial completion for $20.

🎡 Wheel-Throwing Skills

- Wheel Throwing Class (2.5 hrs, $79): Learn the fundamentals of wheel-throwing with live demonstrations and guided practice.

- Wheel Trimming Class (2 hrs, $79): Refine your pieces at the leather-hard stage, improving proportion, weight, and finish.

🖐️ Hand-Building Skills

- Slab Forming Class (2 hrs, $79): Explore slab-based techniques to create functional and sculptural forms without the wheel.

🎨 Ceramic Decoration Skills

- Glazing Class (2 hrs, $79): Apply food-safe glazes and learn decoration techniques with over 30 options available.

- Ceramic Illustrations Class (3 hrs, $120): Experiment with surface illustration across raw, bisque, and glazed stages.

🕒 Practice Sessions & Memberships

Students can book independent practice sessions after classes, using vouchers or casual bookings. Memberships offer extra studio time each week, with flexible options for individuals or shared use.

👩‍🏫 Private Lessons

Tailored one-on-one or small group sessions are available for $98 per hour per person, perfect for skill development or project-focused learning.
