Budō is a way to find Peace and Self-mastery.
I have industry accreditation, under ISO 17024, which is provided by the National Martial Arts Instructors Accreditation Scheme (administered by the Martial Arts Industry Association - MAIA). This is provided by standalone courses delivered by the MAIA in conjunction with the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).
I am also affiliated with the Japan Karate Association World Federation of Australia (JKA/WF Australia) which is a member of the Japan Karate Association (JKA). The JKA is by far the largest Karate organisation in the world.
DISCOVER YOUR OWN TRUTH.
Zen is not a concept that can be depicted in words, regardless of how great we are at explaining things. You will never get an Eskimo to understand how it feels in the Sahara Desert unless they have actually been there. Zen is something that needs to be experienced in order to be understood.
Shōtōkan (松濤館 ) Karate (空手) is a traditional Japanese Martial Art founded by Master Gichin Funakoshi. Shōtōkan Karate remains firmly rooted in a strong martial arts tradition. It emphasises a lifetime of training for a healthier mind and body, rather than for sport.
Shōtōkan Karate is predominantly a weaponless martial art style that is founded on the basic physical techniques of punching, striking, kicking and blocking. The power from these techniques largely relies on the movement of the hips. As you progress higher up the ranks there becomes a deeper psychological component to serious Karate training which develops character.
3 MAIN KARATE ELEMENTS - Kihon, Kata & Kumite.
1 - KIHON
Kihon or simply known as "Basic Fundamentals" are mostly techniques that have derived from Katas. This form of training was originally introduced to aid us in understanding and developing our Katas. We also use Kihons to better understand techniques on how to stand, block, punch and kick. At first you use one technique at a time, and then use them in combinations. With enough repetition of these drills the neural pathway for those movements become stronger, which then fine tunes motor skills and develops muscle memory. At a subconscious level we are then able to execute the movement without having to think about it.
2 - KATA
In Shōtōkan Karate, Kata is a sequence of pre-arranged movements. When performed to it’s maximum ability, the student’s Kata will show precision and attention to form and technique. There are Five Characteristics of Kata.
The principles of Kata can not only be applied in martial arts, but in many processes that we do in everyday life when learning something new.
3 - KUMITE
Kumite can mean "Sparring." In Kumite two practitioners face off demonstrating defensive and offensive techniques learnt from Katas and Kihons. Kata and Kumite are complementary training methods. In Kata, one learns basic techniques and in Kumite one applies them with a sparring partner. The principles of Kihon still apply to Kumite where the Karateka must apply proper Karate techniques, demonstrate correct power and speed, and, above all, exercise good control.
