What do we do?

WE TEACH THE FUNDAMENTALS OF BOXING

Agoge boxing specific class is for those who wish to learn the fistic art of self defence and take it to another level by eventually sparring and possibly compete in an official boxing bout.

OUR CLASSES

⭐ Boxing Class (10-16year olds)

In this group session you will learn your basic fundamentals of boxing, through to more technical boxing skills.

The class includes partner work, bag work, pad work and sparring (if you choose to). Strength and conditioning exercises are also included and are changed throughout the year to ensure variety.

Agoge boxing specific class is for those who wish to learn the fistic art of self defense and take it to another level by eventually sparring and possibly compete in an official boxing bout.

• Defence: the art of boxing is to hit without being hit – defence is ultimately more important than you realize as good defence can set up a better offensive attack on your opponent, nobody likes being hit!

• Offence: Learn how to position yourself with good footwork and balance, and make the most of your punches whether it be a jab, or 5 punch combination.

• Styles and tactics: the old adage “styles make fights” is so true. Learn how a less skilled boxer can overcome and beat a more polished competitor, through style and tactics.

• Conditioning: Conditioning is the most important thing a boxer needs! You could be the most gifted boxer in the world but if your not in condition your gonna lose and lose badly. Imagine being out of breath and gassed unable to even lift up your arms let alone move a muscle and have a barrage of punches being delivered by a supremely fit opponent! No thanks!

ABOUT US

Developed by the ancient Spartans it taught three forms of fighting: Pancration, Wrestling and Boxing. We at the Agoge Boxing Gym focus on the discipline of boxing – both amateur and professional. Things that you will learn at the Agoge Boxing Gym include your fundamentals of boxing, discipline and respect, and – most importantly – the psychological aspect of boxing.

What makes the psychology so important? As a fighter, in any discipline, when you understand your emotions and thought patterns (e.g. anxiety, fear, patience, cautiousness, focus, uncertainty etc.) and use them in your favour alongside physical strength and technical skills, you will become a handful for any opponent. This is what made the Spartans so superior and why they are still used today as examples when training elite soldiers, special forces and top athletes. This is also why the word Spartan is used today to describe a way of life that is hard but simple.

One of the biggest assets of the Agoge Boxing Gym – it’s a community. You won’t just meet people – you will meet friends that you didn’t know you had.
