🌊 Our Story

Founded by husband-and-wife team Justine and Lachlan Spencer, Super Groms Surf Therapy was inspired by their love of the ocean and their passion for helping children thrive. Growing up in the Sutherland Shire and spending countless hours at Cronulla Beach, they discovered the ocean’s power to reset, recharge, and bring joy. Their mission is to promote disability inclusion, independence, and confidence through surf therapy and ocean safety programs.

🏄 Our Surf Program

Super Groms is an Occupational Therapy surfing-based program designed for families who may not be able to access mainstream surf programs. Each session is tailored to the child’s abilities and goals in a safe 1:1 environment. Using the ocean as a medium, children build sensory-motor skills, social skills, motor planning, and self-regulation through fun drills both in the surf and on the beach. Supported by Wanda Surf Life Saving Club, sessions are primarily run at Wanda Beach, Cronulla, with relocations to Silver Beach, Kurnell when needed. All equipment—surfboards, life jackets, rash shirts—is provided.

🌊 Surf Therapy & Ocean Safety

Surf Therapy is a subtle yet powerful tool that helps children regulate emotions, build confidence, and develop physical and social skills in a natural setting. Ocean Safety is carefully integrated, with activities modified to suit each child’s needs. Visual schedules, social stories, and regular breaks ensure children feel supported and safe. Every session is facilitated by an Occupational Therapist alongside trained surf coaches, all certified in Bronze Medallion, First Aid, and CPR, with ongoing disability support training.

They build strength, flexibility, and endurance, while also improving social confidence, self-esteem, and motivation for outdoor activities. Surf therapy fosters self-regulation, focus, problem-solving, and independence, while encouraging participation in swimming, water safety, and Surf Life Saving.
