STEM Club
Chatswood 2067 NSWSTEM Club provides robotics after-school programmes, holiday workshops and professional development for students, schoolteachers and community services.
What do we do?
OUR PROGRAMME
★ LEGO Robotics
Our LEGO Robotics Programme enables students aged 6 to 10 to have their first hands-on experience in robotics using LEGO® WeDo 2.0. Our students will build their robots and execute a variety of programs to make their robots perform actions.
Our LEGO Robotics Programme, being the beginner course in robotics, is designed to use a friendly and powerful coding interface, using click-and-drag commands grouped by colours. All the commands are visible, so our students will not be left guessing how a program can be built.
The aim of this programme is to introduce programming and robotics to our students, and let them experience how robots come to life.
★ SPIKE Prime Robotics Programme
Our SPIKE Prime Robotics Programme is a project-based programme. It introduces students aged 9 and above computational and robotics skills using LEGO SPIKE Prime robot kits. Each week our students will work on real-world projects and learn about robot components and engineering design. Our programme encourages students to ask questions, define problems and design their own solutions, and put their programming skills to test, and understand what works and why. This helps them experience how engineering and science come to life.
Our students are also encouraged to participate in global competitions such as FIRST LEGO® League and World Robot Olympiad (WRO), guided by our experienced mentors.
★ Python Programming And Python Robotics
Python Programming is the first of a two-program sequence: Python Programming and Python Robotics. Together, they are designed to help students with no prior experience in Python programming learn to think computationally and write programs in Python to tackle real-life problems.
Python Robotics is the second of a two-program sequence: Python Programming and Python Robotics. Together, they are designed to help students with no prior exposure to Python programming learn to think computationally and write programs in Python to a SPIKE Prime robot and participate in Australian robotics competitions.
★ Tech-challenge Robotics Programme
Our Tech-challenge Robotics programme is a project-based and team-based programme, designed for students aged 12 and above. Given different challenges, our students will develop their computational skills, build and code their robots using Java-based programming, and learn to raise funds, design and market their team brand. Throughout our Tech-challenge Robotics Programme they will learn to ask in-depth questions and solve problems in a professional manner. Guided by our mentors, students will realize the value of hard work and innovation, and work as a team.
There are two major objectives behind our Tech-challenge Robotics Programme:
(1) In the short term, we will help students develop their problem-solving skills, communication skills, teamwork skills, independence and creativity; and students will explore, create and share their scientific and engineering discoveries as they build and program real-life projects.
(2) Robotics industry is on the rise leading to robots being used in every walk of life, from domestic appliances to manufacturing, automation, and military. In the long term, the Tech-challenge Robotics Programme would inspire our students to prepare themselves for a fruitful career in STEM-related workforce.
ABOUT US
In 2015, STEM Academy (trading as STEM Club) was founded by Dr Zhao due to a gap in the market in training young people in STEM, and was registered by the National VET Regulator as a NVR Registered Training Organisation (RTO Code: 45736). The goal of STEM Academy (trading as STEM Club) is to bring to life science, technology, engineering and mathematics with practical activities and real-life problems to engage more young people in STEM, and provide a simple and easy guidance in STEM education for schoolteachers.
STEM Academy (trading as STEM Club) also has a strategic plan to invest in developing Artificial Intelligence technologies to support schools and educators. STEM Academy has long-time and close collaborations with universities such as UTS and USYD in both developing Artificial Intelligence technologies (e.g. Towards a Structured Understanding of Private Educational Scenes and Smart Solar Systems) and STEM course development (e.g. Robotics and Python Programming).
STEM Academy (trading as STEM Club) is also focusing on developing smart renewable energy generation technology, and at the same time, offers a range of outreach STEM activities or school students. Over the past years since its establishment, Australia Renewable Energy Lab (AREL) of STEM Academy has designed a small-scale vertical-axis wind turbine for use in rural area, conceptualized a bladeless wind turbine, carried out dynamic analysis of offshore wind turbine, and provided maintenance schedule for an onshore wind farm composed of large horizontal-axis wind turbines.
