Plie, Groove'n'Shuffle

Plié, Groove’n’Shuffle was opened in 1997 by Vicki Clare, and has since become the leading performing arts centre on the northern side of Sydney. Plié prides itself on offering professional and caring staff, a wide variety of subjects and affordable rates. Plié Cromer Campus has seven purpose built dance studios, including a sprung studio for cheerleading & gymnastics, three studios at Plié North Sydney and two studios at Plié St Ives. New in 2012 was the inclusion of our own theatrette on site at Cromer, for our students to perform regularly in a professional environment.

Plié has a friendly and fun atmosphere, with classes to offer for both serious dancers, or for those who want to participate for fitness and enjoyment. There is something for everyone! Plié is most famous for our community feeling- students and parents enjoy friendships and forming a strong support network- such important elements to encourage sportsmanship amongst our dancers, and create a sense of belonging. Students should not only reach their personal best in dance & cheer, but also benefit from increased confidence and social skills.

Plié staff share a commitment to training students to have solid technique as well as encouraging performance skills and creating a happy & safe learning space. Our staff all foster inclusion, team work, positivity, and encourage a supportive environment for all our students. Our teachers are all qualified professionals, who inspire our students on a daily basis. Our teachers are incredible role models in dance, cheer & life for our lucky Plié kids.

★ Under Five

○ MUMS/DADS'N'BUBS - Boys & Girls from 1.5- 2.5 years old

Our unique Tiny Tots curriculum combines the technique and discipline of dance and spontaneous bursts of song!. It is very much an interactive program, with children being encouraged to answer questions and improvise. Their creativity and enthusiasm is always an inspiration to us. Taught by qualified and experienced dance teachers who will bring out the true potential of your tiny tot and guide them through these formative years.

○ TEENY TINIES & TINIES - Pre-schoolers from 2.5-5 years old

Our unique pre school curriculum combines the technique and discipline of ballet, jazz, tap and spontaneous bursts of song!. It is very much an interactive program, with children being encouraged to answer questions and improvise. Their creativity and enthusiasm is always an inspiration to us. Taught by qualified and experienced dance teachers who will bring out the true potential of your little dancer and guide them through these formative years.

★ Ozdance Performance Sport

The aim of OzDance is not to replace the beauty, art and creativity of dance, but to enhance the strength and technical ability of dancers, and provide for the first time in Australia, a competition platform where dancers are judged against set criteria. Every competitor performs the set syllabus for our judges, and then ranked according to their technical & performance abilities.

★ Tumbling

Tumbling enhances balance, coordination and agility. Builds excellent strength, teaches safe landings and control. Includes cartwheels, aerial cartwheels, hand stands, bridges, rolls, walk overs, mounts and tumbling. extensive body conditioning, stretching and 'Safe Dance' policy.

★ Ballet

Ballet originated in the Italian Renaissance courts of the 15th century, and was further developed in France, England, and Russia. It has since become a highly technical form of dance with its own vocabulary. It is a poised style of dance that incorporates the foundational techniques for many other dance forms. It particularly encourages great awareness of the body and its posture,alignment and placement.

★ Breakdance

Break-dancing involves the dance elements of toprock, downrock, freezes, and power moves. We are very lucky to have our amazing break teachers Ben & Travis, who continue to inspire & guide our kids through the latest break movements.

★ Competitive Cheerleading

All enrolled students are eligible to participate in competitions throughout the year. In 2013- our very first year of competitions, Plié blew everyone away, winning 13 places at the AASCF State Titles, and the 8 places at the AASCF National Titles- including 3 National Titles!! In 2014, Plié won 7 National Titles, and placed in the top 4 in Australia in 17 events.

★ Hip Hop

Pliè is particularly well known for our amazing hip hop. Our teams have won over 20 National titles in hip hop, and were recently runners-up in the AASCF National Dance Titles for Grand National Champions. We have won countless eisteddfods & competitions & have THE coolest hip hop teacher in town leading our hip hop department- Erin Usini.

★ Jazz

Jazz has become one of the most popular dance styles in recent years, mainly due to its popularity on television shows, movies, music videos and commercials. Jazz is fun and energetic, and consists of fancy footwork, big leaps and quick turns and kicks. Music is upbeat pop guaranteed to get you moving.

★ Lyrical Contemporary

Our Lyrical/Contemporary classes combine ballet and modern dance to create a fluid, yet dynamic and expressive dance form. These classes are great for improving strength and coordination in boys and girls. Chart topping ballads and many alternate, abstract pieces of music are used in Lyrical/Contemporary making it an enjoyable creative outlet for children and teenagers.

★ Music Theatre

A combination of dance, song & drama, and recreating production numbers from stage & screen. These classes have become enormously popular because of the FUN!! If you love musicals- this class is for you!!

★ Stage Classes

Students are selected to be part of stage classes to represent Plié at eisteddfods, corporate and community events and festivals, photo shoots and media appearances. Stage Class performers are our most energetic and versatile students who love performance opportunities. They train in many styles of dance- ballet being compulsory.

★ Tap

Rhythmical & percussive sound is created from metal plates attached to both the ball and heel of the dancer's shoes. Tap is steeped in tradition and technique and is a great brain and cardio workout. Think 'Happy Feet' and Fred Astaire. Music varies from pop to musical theatre style.
