ABOUT US
Soke Peter Morton started the Peter Morton Academy of Judo Jujitsu Karate in 1962 at Queanbeyan, New South Wales. Since this time it has operated as a not-for-profit organisation and now has branches in the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia.
The academy teaches a practical, non-competitive self-defence style of martial art to people of all ages with an emphasis on defence. The techniques taught use an attacker’s strength to a defender’s advantage. These defensive strategies aim to initially evade, disable and finally immobilise an attacker.
Classes are conducted in a semi-formal environment where students
○ learn to react instinctively without a second thought
○ improve coordination, reflexes, physical fitness, self control and self esteem
○ learn to manoeuvre any situation to their advantage through the use of leverage, balance and momentum.
ABOUT OUR CLASSES
Training: The art taught by the Peter Morton Academy of Judo Jujitsu Karate has three basic influences: Kodokan Judo, Jujitsu and Kempo Karate. It is designed primarily as a self defence art.
lternative Education in the Martial Arts: A student may wish to participate in a martial art but may be deterred by the overt physical nature, dynamics and pressure to perform. The AEiM method is suitable for students unable to participate in a traditional system, due to ability, age, mobility or injury concerns.
What Students Wear: Once a student has made a decision to continue training they wear a martial arts uniform, called a judogi.
Instructors: All instructors have coaching accreditation, first aid certification, sports trainer education and donate their time freely. Instructors are called ‘Sensei’.
Interested?: Go along to any branch or contact one of the chief instructors. Join in a class and take advantage of a free introductory class.
