Terms 3 and 4 are working on an end of year performance from knowledge and skills learnt in the first two terms.

*School Years 7-12 (High School)

Term 1 and 2 offers a more advanced program in theatrical performing, drama, singing and dance, voice projection, memorisation skills, how to improve timing, characterisation, self-confidence and improv.

Drama games, warm up exercises, improvisation, role playing, character identification, emotion, and projection are all used to hone acting skills.

During terms 3 and 4 we bring together the knowledge gained in the first 2 terms and the process involved in auditioning which leads to our end of year performance.

Both groups; Ballina and Alstonville will come together to present a musical production at the conclusion of term 4. Students must attend terms 2 and 3 as a minimum requirement to be in the end of year performance. The production will have professional lighting, sound and staging. It is important to note that there may be some additional costume costs and the production is ticketed.

⭐Holiday Workshops

OnStage is a high energy fast pace 4 day school holiday personal capacity building program for 6 to 17 years old held in Ballina NSW.

Those attending learn a dance routine, songs, stage-craft and a drama piece which are all to performance levels. They develop new skills, make new friends and have lots of fun. It is designed to develop young people’s self esteem, confidence and social interaction skills on and off the stage. These skills are also core outcomes of the program.

Specialist singing, drama and dance teachers are employed to professionally assist the children. We also employ teachers assistants. We draw on these assistants from the talent base of previous OnStage mentors, Ballina Players youth performers and Arts University students. Working with Children requirements are met.

Each workshop consists of approximately 70 students. It is common to have 2-4 children from the same family attend. Since 2009 we have had over 3600 children attend. Approximately 90 percent are repeat customers.

Workshops are held regularly during the Autumn, Winter and Spring school holidays at the Ballina Players’ Theatre.

⭐Program

Getting to know you activities and sessions in singing, dancing and drama are held each day in a fun environment.

The students are generally placed in three age groups according to age. Groups are age specific depending on the number of enrolments applicable to their ages. Students from more than 30 schools in New South Wales and Queensland attend.

The workshops are held over four days. Each age group rotates between the various activates during the day which leads to a concert on stage under lights on the last day of the workshop at 5:00pm. It is an opportunity for the students to showcase what they have learnt over the 4 days. Each group performs a song, dance and drama. Each student is given a character in the drama with dialogue, therefore it is important the every child attends the concert.
