Miyagi Kan Karate Lismore

Miyagi Kan Lismore is a local Karate club for all ages and abilities.

Practising the traditional Goju Ryu style of Karate, and focusing on Self Defence, Flexibility, Goal Setting and Self Confidence. We are one of 11 clubs located around Australia and NZ with the main Dojo Located in Sydney NSW.

OUR CLASSES

✨ Karate (Kids)

This class is for children 13 years and under. It focuses on teaching karate foundations and basics (kihon), coordination, karate skills (such as agility, jumping, balance, concentration etc.) and foundations of kumite.

✨ Karate

This is class is generally offered to people 12 years and older. You will build upon and develops karate basics (kihon), coordination, karate skills (such as agility, jumping, balance, concentration etc.) and foundations of kumite.

✨ Kumite

Kumite classes focus on developing students in dojo sparring and sports karate competition (adaptable for beginner to elite).

This class is high intensity training. You can expect kumite-specific technical and tactical development, physical and mental competition preparation. This is an excellent class for those who want to develop their fitness and/ or gain skills and confidence in the ring.

✨ Kobudo

Kobudo is training in the weapons system of martial arts.

✨ Black Belt Kata

This class is for Black Belts (shodan-ho and above). This class has a foundation of traditional kata training and is also for those training for competition kata (adaptable for intermediate to elite).

ABOUT US

Miyagi Kan is one of the most respected Karate organisations in Australia and was founded by Hanshi George Barounis, 9th Dan in 1976 after returning from Japan where he trained in the traditional ways of Karate-do.

Miyagi Kan is a member of the NSW Karate Federation (NSWKF) and Australian Karate Federation (AKF), which are the official recognised governing bodies for karate by the Australian Sports Commission. This means that Miyagi Kan students are able to enter sport karate competitions that are run by the AKF such as the NSW State Championships and National Championships. There are local, national and international competitions held throughout the year, from novice to elite level. Miyagi Kan students consistently excel at all levels of competition.
