ABOUT LEVEDA CARTER

Leveda commenced her ballet training at 5 years at the Scully Borovansky school in Sydney. When she was 8, her mother, Betty Laws, an RAD teacher & examiner, who owned a Ballet School in Canberra, taught her for the next 8 years.

At the age of 16 she moved back to Sydney to do full time ballet at the Scully Borovansky School under Kathleen Daintree and Nellie Potts, where she studied for 2.5 years gaining her Advanced RAD. She then travelled to London to further her studies, training under well known teachers Anna Northcote, Marion Lane, Errol Addison and Maria Fay.

The year after arriving in London she was offered a position in a Paris based touring company .Whist living in Paris she trained at The Frachetti Ballet School under Gilbert Mayer. They toured through Europe performing the ballet 'Lady of the Camellias' .

Following this contract she moved to New York for 12 months, also taking classes and commencing contemporary at The Martha Graham School. In 1976 she returned to Australia to run her mother's ballet school in Canberra, after which she got a position teaching in Mildura for 12 months.

She then returned to Sydney and commenced teaching at several part time ballet schools as well as full time pupils at various full time schools.

A couple of years on she opened her own school in Balmain, which was the beginning of many years of running her own school, with many pupils progressing on to schools and companies both in Australia and overseas.

She sold her school in 2014, which then had 270 pupils, to move to the Northern Rivers to live, where she has been teaching ballet for the last 5 years at various dance schools in the surrounding area.

Leveda is a fully registered RAD teacher and a Life Member of the Academy.
