Land's Edge Foundation

Land's Edge Foundation (LEF) is an industry leading Not for Profit organisation specialising in educating kids outdoors. For over 20 years we have been delivering impactful outdoor education experiences to young people in some of our states most spectacular locations and for 12 years we have operated a group accomodation on Sydney Harbour at Chowder Bay. Typically our Sydney location is filled with school students year round, however with increase restrictions on schools, we have decided to open up Chowder Bay to individuals wanting to book into small group COVID Safe school holiday programs because, now more than ever, there is a need to get kids outdoors.

In working with young people, Land’s Edge Foundation aims to empower them by developing and strengthening their self confidence and personal competence through meaningful and innovative programming that is at once stimulating, challenging and enjoyable. LEF favours an inquiry based and lifelong learning approach with a focus on students’ thinking skills, reasoning, problem-solving and evaluation.

Most importantly, LEF works with young people towards development of a set of knowledge, skills and behaviours that prepares them for the challenges of a rapidly changing world. LEF’s programming also provides young people with time to enjoy the natural environment, be challenged by it mentally, physically and socially, and to reflect upon their experience in it. Specifically, all LEF programming is developed by expert educators to allow young people time for:

1 appreciation – of their environment, themselves and their community

2 investigation - their search for knowledge

3 journeying - their progression physically and mentally as individuals or as part of a group

4 sense of place – their location being paramount

In order to achieve the learning outcomes we use fun, yet challenging, activities such as rafting in Chowder Bay, snorkelling, SUPing, kayaking, bushwalking, environmental art and initiatives to draw out the learning in ways that are often times not noticed initially by the participant. Over the 21 years of delivering education outdoors, LEF has been able to develop and maintain an exemplary safety record and industry leading approach to risk management in the outdoors. Our ability to run safe, challenging and enjoyable experiences are just some of the areas that set LEF apart. We look forward to providing new experiences for young people these school holidays.
