Jacaranda Highland Dancers

Grafton 2460 NSW

Our aim is to promote & maintain the Scottish Culture wherever we are & whenever we can through dance.

What do we do?

The Jacaranda Highland Dancers were born during the year 2000 with their birth mother being the Scottish Town Dancers Studio in Maclean. The Teacher of this studio, Janet North-Gray, adopted out the Grafton arm of her Studio to her student and the current Teacher, Kristina Sanne.

Kristina saw the need for her fledgling Studio to branch out and provide a form of dance to children other than the regular ones such as Ballet. So she headed south to the City of Coffs Harbour where the studio has flourished and grown since then. The popularity of shows such as Riverdance had children nationwide searching for someone to teach them this or a similar type of dancing with a Celtic background.

Whist Riverdance is based on Irish Dancing the Celtic beat is what has attracted many children to our Studio. Highland Dancing however is vastly different to Irish Dancing & is the second hardest form of Dance to learn after the Kosak.

Over the years dancers have come & gone from our Studio but one thing remains constant....the popularity of the dance & the requests for the dancers to perform in many arena's from Brisbane to Sydney & west to places like Inverell, Glen Innes & Armidale.

The Studio has had much success at Competitions as well as displays. Between them the dancers hold many & varied Championships, Titles & Awards. Some of our dancers have been lucky enough to have competed in Scotland with great success beating some of the Scots at their own game!!
