What do we do?
🥋 Hwa Rang Do & Taekwondo
The Hwarang movement began in Korea during the Silla Dynasty (57 BC – 935 AD) as a group of noble youths devoted to loyalty, respect, courage, and discipline. These warrior-scholars were known for their bravery, their devotion to unity, and their commitment to both intellectual and physical pursuits. Their code of honour—loyalty to nation, respect for parents, faithfulness to friends, courage in battle, and avoidance of unnecessary violence—still inspires martial artists today.
🌟 What is Taekwondo?
Taekwondo, developed over 20 centuries ago, is a Korean martial art that combines sharp, powerful strikes with flowing circular movements. Famous for its spectacular kicking techniques, Taekwondo is both beautiful and effective. Beyond physical training, it strengthens the mind, emphasising discipline, confidence, concentration, and self-control.
🛡️ Self-Defence Training
Hwa Rang Do’s self-defence system blends blocking, striking, throwing, joint locks, and wrestling techniques. Students progress through belt levels, starting with basic stances and strikes, then advancing to throws, takedowns, and weapon defence. At higher levels, training focuses on mastering techniques safely, aiming to defend without causing unnecessary harm—reflecting the Hwarang’s philosophy of courage with compassion.
⚔️ Weapons Training
Advanced students also learn weapons skills and defence, further expanding their martial arts knowledge and discipline.
