Coogee Yoga is a boutique yoga studio, offering quality teaching of yoga in the Iyengar method in a light, warm and welcoming space. There is a strong focus on practice based learning where students are taught how to develop a safe and systematic progression into yoga postures. There is no need to feel intimidated by large classes. Our small classes allow for a more personalised experience and greater attention given to your needs.

Practicing his method of yoga, even for a short period of time, will improve your balance and flexibility, increase your stamina and strength and bring that awareness into your daily life.

We have a range of classes and courses to suit everybody’s needs and every stage of life. From yoga for teenagers, beginner, general and restorative classes, beginner courses to more advanced level 2 courses.

IYENGAR YOGA

The Iyengar yoga method is practical, challenging and has therapeutic value. You do not need to be flexible or ‘physically’ inclined. It can be practiced by anyone regardless of age or fitness.

Some features unique to the Iyengar method include:

★ Emphasis is placed on correctness and precision in the placement and alignment of the body.

★Equipment known as yoga props are used to assist the student to facilitate the poses. Objects such as blocks, chairs, blankets and belts are used to help students to adjust themselves into different asanas. Props enable students to work in a range of motion that is safe and help to effectively align the body.

★The sequencing of the asanas is taught in order to be effective and safe whilst providing the best possible environment for learning.

The purpose of yoga is to achieve a balanced, refreshed, and peaceful mental and physical state of being.

CLASSES

★ BEGINNERS

For first timers to yoga and the Iyengar method or for those who simply want to ease back into practice. Classes are focused on introducing and consolidating yoga foundations. Suitable for people of all ages and any levels of fitness.

★ OPEN LEVEL

Designed for all levels of students, every student will be integrated into the class. Whether a beginner, limited in movement or more experienced in practice, the class will be designed that you can work at your level.

★ GENERAL

For students with some Iyengar yoga experience who have attended at least one of our 6 week Beginners courses. These classes are aimed at developing further confidence in poses and refining techniques.

★ RESTORATIVE

This restorative yoga class facilitates deep relaxation, to help us restore and renew energy levels. With the use of props we will explore various poses to support the body enabling a deeper sense of relaxation, giving the brain the opportunity to quieten, and enabling both the body and mind to repair, restore and revitalise itself. This class is suitable for all levels of experience.

★ MEDITATION

Experience total relaxation with guided meditation followed by a soothing sound bath. Some of the benefits include mind and body connection, learning how to interrupt negative thought patterns, stilling the mind, feeling rejuvenated, improved sleep and blissing out!

In order to experience all that yoga can offer, it requires regular practice with focus and commitment. So we hope that once you experience one of our classes you will endeavour to begin a regular yoga practice with us in order to develop and grow and therefore gain all the benefits that yoga has to offer.
