📖 A Living History

Karate’s story began over 500 years ago in Okinawa under King Shohashi. When weapons were banned centuries later, karate evolved into a unique art of unarmed self-defence. In 1922, Master Funakoshi Giichin introduced karate-do to Japan, inspiring audiences with his emphasis on values like courage, courtesy, integrity, humility, and self-control. His teachings helped karate gain popularity across Japan, especially among university students.

🌍 Global Legacy

Master Funakoshi was not only a martial arts genius but also a gifted writer, leaving behind key texts that shaped karate-do. In 1949, the Japan Karate Association was founded with him as Chief Instructor. Under his guidance, karate grew into a respected international discipline, celebrated as the martial art of the “True Gentleman.”
