Radio Games with BBC Micro: Bit

Australian Academy of Robotics And STEM Education • Girraween 2145

Overview

A hands-on program where students will learn the fundamentals of micro: controllers and coding using the mighty micro controller – the BBC Micro: Bit. The program will start with the introduction of Micro: Bit hardware including its programmable LEDs, sensors, microphone, speakers, and ports. Students will then learn to work and code the Radio signals to transmit messages between their Micro: Bits. Students will play fun Radio games including Hot Potato!

    Program Highlights:

    A hands-on program using a micro-controller, sensors, and more
    Learn the fundamentals of coding
Immediately apply the learning through projects!
    No prior experience required
If your child loves to tinker, then it can’t get any more hands-on! No prior experience is necessary. If you attended our previous holiday program and took home the Micro: Bit, then you can use the same Micro: Bit. Micro: Bit is an electronic device and can pose a risk if not handled correctly. Enrolment is subject to accepting the risks and safe handling instructions in the attached safety guide. Additional components used during the workshop are not included in the take-home kit.

    What is a Micro: Bit?

The micro: Bit is an open-source hardware ARM-based embedded system designed by the BBC for use in computer education in the UK. The device has an ARM Cortex-M0 processor, accelerometer and magnetometer sensors, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, a display consisting of 25 LEDs, two programmable buttons, and can be powered by either USB or an external battery pack. The device inputs and outputs are through five ring connectors that form part of a larger 23-pin edge connector.

What is included in the kit?

    1x micro:bit,
    USB cable,
    Battery holder,
    2x AAA batteries,
    Quick start guide

About the provider

Leading Provider of Coding, Robotics And STEM programs for Primary and High School Students.

STEM as they call it…Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths has been around for a long time, then why all the fuss? Well, STEM has become a buzz word in education globally but in reality, the spirit of STEM is to apply all the learnings from these subjects to solve a problem or a task. The next generation of engineers will not be a computer or mechanical engineers rather we believe that our next generation will be humanitarian engineers who will work to solve societal and humanitarian problems using learnings from all different disciplines. We, therefore love STEM and are here to inspire and engage our kids in this wonderful and exciting way of acquiring and using knowledge.
