Overview
- Theme: Motion & Magic
Duration: 2 hours
Difficulty: ★★★☆☆ (3/5)
Recommended Age: 6–12 years
🫧 Activity Overview
In this hands-on and imaginative session, children will create a Moon Phase Diorama that captures the full lunar cycle in a creative and tactile format. Using air dry clay and acrylic paint, participants will sculpt and paint the Earth, eight distinct moon phases, and a sun, all carefully arranged within a beautifully painted wooden tray.
Children will begin by painting the tray black and adding white speckles to represent a starry night sky. They'll then create and position the moon phases in correct order around a central Earth, learning how light from the sun affects how we see the moon from Earth. The new moon will be placed next to a bright semi-circle sun, visually grounding the astronomy in an accessible and artistic way.
This project offers the perfect blend of science, art, and spirituality, with opportunities to explore the Islamic calendar, which is based on lunar phases.
