Overview
- We are excited to announce our annual FREE community event for children and adolescents:
When: August 29 - September 3 2022
Where: Gracie Barra Bondi
Who: To take place in all JR classes
What: Street self defence and stop bullying
We aim to bring the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu of Gracie Barra Bondi to everyone in the community to make it a safer place for all and minimise bullying.
We encourage all students to bring a friend for free to join in our week of special classes for them to share in this wonderful opportunity and learn some new skills.
In our Teens (11-16) program for boys and girls, a in depth view of the ‘Forge Bully Proof Program’ is contextualised for your child. At this stage we introduce live sparring/wrestling and rolling alongside submissions under controlled conditions.
Classes are fast paced and game based to keep your child interested, but also designed around common themes so there is consistency in their learning. It is a martial arts class with fitness, friendship and of course fun!
Our goal is for children and adolescents to learn how to defend against and control or subdue someone in a self defence scenario, rather than to coach a striking art. This is for a number of reasons:
Firstly, control. Young bodies are developing quickly and constantly, and grappling helps them discover their strength and learn how to use it with temperance. If we coach striking straight away, that temperance and control is not as defined and can lead to an unsafe training environment.
Secondly, legalities and health concerns. We want your child to be able to de-escalate or control an encounter instead of striking someone and then having to deal with the consequences after.
During these workshops your child will work with a group of their peers and focus on developing their physical and mental skills. This will not only increase their skills on the mat or in self defence, but foster their ability to cooperate, communicate, develop leadership skills and ultimately build stronger self confidence.
