About This Workshop
Basecamp® is an innovative anxiety workshop that helps children aged 7 to 13 build a repertoire of anxiety-management skills. The program has won numerous local and international awards, including the Educational Initiative Award at the The London Book Fair International Excellence Awards and Best Designed Educational Resource at the 66th Australian Book Design Awards.
This three-hour holiday workshop draws on decades of experience and combines a sound cognitive behavioural approach with effective and engaging child-centred activities.
What we cover
During this three-hour workshop version of Basecamp® encourages participants to accept and redirect persistent worries or anxiety-based behaviour, express fears or phobias among same-aged peers, exchange coping strategies for home and school, practice relaxation to modify behaviour, take responsibility and change unhelpful thoughts.
Using various activities such as storytelling and role-playing, we help young people identify their personal triggers for anxiety and teach them how best to manage their behaviour.
Participants also complete activities based on cognitive behavioural therapy and learn from each other as we normalise feeling anxious. We cover:
Understanding fight-or-flight responses
Techniques to express worries and fears
Strategies to reduce anxiety responses
Taking control at home and school
Each workshop is evaluated to ensure that it meets our strict learning outcomes. Current research with parents indicates that 82% of children were better able to manage their worries and anxiety (overall) after attending a three-hour workshop
Workshop structure and inclusions
The workshop runs as a single three-hour session. It includes:
Small groups with a maximum of four to six participants
A copy of the 39-page workshop workbook
A written group feedback email
Optional individual feedback with parents
