★ Fun-Fist Steps / Foundation (9:45-10:20am)
• First Steps (ages 2 – 3)
At this preliminary level, children explore their environment and become aware of the use of their listening skills in the performance of their dance movements.
• Foundation (ages 3 – 4)
What is taught in this class are the fundamental ‘building blocks’ of classical ballet technique ie. the pure basic steps, positions and movements, the very basic components which are integral to classical ballet. Through these exercises and most importantly through repetition children learn to focus their energies as their bodies begin to integrate the various movements and anticipate the next steps in musical sequence.
★ Form / Flair (10:50-11:30am)
• Form (ages 4 – 5)
Children progressing to this stage have now acquired a sound understanding of the basics and are now able to build on firm foundations producing a variety of positions and movements possessing the qualities which characterize classical ballet. Anatomical and mechanical correctness are further developed at this level.
• Flair (ages 5 – 6)
The dancer expresses the human impulse to move with precision, power and expressive purpose.
The discipline that moulds the body into the correct form at the former level now gives the student the power and freedom of self-expression. Dancers learn to be at ease with their bodies and learn to become aware of how their thoughts and feelings affect their gestures and actions. Each child finds their own way of breathing life into this ideal.
