Overview
- Musical Theatre allows students a chance to discover their individual talents and interests while exploring the basics of singing, dancing, and acting. Musical Theatre classes focus on fundamental performing arts skills, emphasizing creative expression and fun. These classes work on developing children’s abilities in dance and animation learning songs and routines ranging from old school musicals like “Annie” to modern day musicals such as “Legally Blonde”. The instructor focuses on each skill individually and then work to put them all together in a fun, creative and expressive way. The activities in this class are geared toward improving and enhancing the student’s self-image and self confidence. Imagination and creativity are essential components in this class and through the use of age appropriate materials our teachers ultimate goal is to inspire each and every student. The class starts with drama games based around the theme of the day designed to warm up the children’s bodies and voices. These activities are presented to the children in the form of a game and although the children feel like they are playing they are learning and developing skills in vocal projection, confidence in presenting their own ideas and working together.
Each class culminates in a performance where the children perform for each other. At the beginning of the year this can often be the whole class working together at the same time. As the year progresses the performance is more often in pairs. The children perform a short scene related to the theme of the day in which they always have the opportunity to add their own ideas. As the children perform for each other every week their confidence and ability grows.
We also have a full scale Musical production each year that students are encouraged to participate in.
